Steeped in history and located on the revered Pomerol plateau, Château du Domaine de l’Église 2017 comes from one of the appellation’s oldest estates, first recorded in 1589. Situated just steps from Pomerol’s church and neighbouring some of the region’s most iconic vineyards, the estate has long been recognised for producing beautifully rounded, expressive wines.
Crafted predominantly from Merlot with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, the grapes are grown on gravel over sandy-clay soils, a classic terroir that brings both richness and finesse. Following fermentation in temperature-controlled vats, the wine underwent a four-week maceration before maturing for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which were new, adding depth and subtle complexity.
The 2017 vintage, shaped by a challenging growing season and low yields, delivered wines with excellent balance and purity of fruit. In the glass, it reveals inviting aromas of cherry, blackberry, plum, and a hint of cocoa. The palate is full-bodied and plush, with concentrated sweet fruit, silky tannins, and a refined chocolate note on the finish.
A classic, velvety Pomerol that combines heritage, charm, and elegance.
