Ballindalloch Edition No. 4 is the fourth release in the distillery's Seven Springs Collection, a series of Speyside single malt Scotch whiskies celebrating the distinctive character and provenance of Ballindalloch's estate-grown barley. Matured for 10 years exclusively in refill bourbon barrels and bottled at 59.4% ABV, this expression places the emphasis firmly on the distillery's spirit and the influence of carefully selected bourbon casks.
Ballindalloch is one of Scotland's few remaining single-estate whisky producers, with a history closely connected to the Macpherson-Grant family and Ballindalloch Castle. The estate has been in the family's ownership since 1498, while whisky was first distilled on the estate in 1824. Today, the distillery continues this agricultural and distilling heritage, using barley grown entirely on its own fields and water sourced from Ballindalloch's seven Garline springs. Production takes place on the estate, maintaining a close connection between the land, its ingredients and the finished whisky.
For Edition No. 4, the distillery has chosen maturation exclusively in refill bourbon barrels, allowing the natural character of Ballindalloch's spirit to remain prominent. The whisky displays a balance of vanilla, baked apples and gentle spice, accompanied by citrus freshness and developing walnut notes. The use of refill casks provides a particularly interesting opportunity to appreciate the underlying style of the distillery without the heavier influence often associated with more active oak.
Bottled on site at Ballindalloch Distillery, this fourth Seven Springs release is limited to 1,200 bottles. With its 10-year maturation, estate-grown barley and exclusively refill bourbon cask maturation, it offers whisky enthusiasts a focused expression of Ballindalloch's single-estate philosophy and a distinctive addition to the Seven Springs Collection.
