Ballindalloch 'The Castle' is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that brings together the distillery's single-estate approach to whisky production with an unusual literary collaboration. Created in partnership with Sunday Times bestselling author John Sutherland, this small-batch release takes its name from The Castle, a thriller set on a fictional Highland estate inspired by Ballindalloch Castle.

Produced at one of Speyside's smallest distilleries, Ballindalloch single malt is made using barley grown on the estate itself. This close connection between farming and distilling is central to the distillery's identity. For 'The Castle', Ballindalloch's characteristically fruity, medium-bodied spirit has been matured in a combination of first-fill and second-fill bourbon casks, including casks that previously held peated whisky. This approach introduces the potential influence of residual peat character while retaining the underlying style of the distillery's single malt.

Bottled at 50% ABV without chill-filtration, 'The Castle' offers an opportunity to explore a different aspect of Ballindalloch's cask maturation. The use of ex-peated whisky casks is particularly interesting, as it allows the influence of previously peated spirit to contribute to the maturation without the whisky itself necessarily being produced from peated malt.

With its connection to John Sutherland's novel and the estate that inspired its setting, Ballindalloch 'The Castle' has an appeal beyond its cask composition. It makes a thoughtful gift for whisky enthusiasts, particularly those with an interest in Scottish literature, Highland estates or the distinctive approach to whisky making at Ballindalloch.
