Carpineto Poggio Sant’Enrico Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2012 is an exceptional single-vineyard Tuscan red wine crafted entirely from Sangiovese grown in the prestigious Poggio Sant’Enrico vineyards on the Chianciano Estate in Montepulciano. This powerful and mature wine represents one of the flagship expressions from the renowned Carpineto winery, known for producing elegant wines that express the character of Tuscany.
Founded in 1967 by the Sacchet and Zaccheo families, Carpineto has built an international reputation for excellence, farming over 500 hectares of sustainably managed vineyards across Tuscany. The estate holds several sustainability certifications, including VIVA, ISO 14001, and IFS, reflecting its commitment to environmentally responsible winemaking.
This wine comes from two carefully selected vineyard parcels:
Poggio Sant’Enrico Piccolo (1.33 hectares) planted in 1978
Poggio Sant’Enrico Grande (3.65 hectares) planted in 1995
Located at 300–350 meters above sea level, the vineyards enjoy southern exposure on rolling Tuscan hillsides. The soils consist of deep sedimentary layers with sandy clay and limestone, ideal for producing concentrated Sangiovese with structure and elegance.
The grapes were fermented in small batches using indigenous wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Following fermentation and 12 days of maceration, the wine was matured for 13 months in new French and American oak barrels before bottling unfiltered. It then spent approximately four years ageing in bottle in the estate’s underground cellars before release.
The result is a complex, mature, and deeply expressive wine.
