From the northern reaches of the Rhône Valley, La Combe Pilate Viognier 2023 by M. Chapoutier is a beautifully expressive interpretation of this aromatic varietal. Sourced from vineyards in the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, the vines grow on complex soils of clay, quartz pebbles, limestone gravel, loess, and gneissic rock, contributing freshness, minerality, and definition.
The 2023 vintage was shaped by intense climatic contrasts, heatwaves, water stress, and Mediterranean rainfall, yet the terroir prevailed, delivering fruit of remarkable purity and balance.
Whole bunches are gently pressed, with only the finest juices selected. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 8–9 months in stainless steel vats, allowing its natural character to shine. A light bâtonnage during the early months adds texture without overshadowing the freshness.
In the glass, it shows delicate aromas of bergamot and flint stone. The palate is bright and fresh on entry, showcasing classic Viognier notes with balanced acidity and natural roundness. The finish is savoury and mineral, with a subtle rustic edge that reflects its terroir.
An elegant and vibrant Rhône white, perfect for seafood and fresh, aromatic dishes.
