From the northern edge of Entre-deux-Mers in St. Germain du Puch, Château Lestrille Capmartin 2016 captures everything that makes this vintage one of Bordeaux’s modern greats. A blend dominated by 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this Bordeaux Supérieur is crafted by talented winemaker Estelle Roumage, whose approach prioritises vineyard health, sustainability, and minimal-intervention cellar work.
2016 was an exceptional year: a wet spring restored soil moisture, followed by a long, warm, dry summer with cool nights ideal for slow, even ripening. The estate’s clay-and-silt soils supported beautifully concentrated berries, producing wines with structure, freshness, and superb aromatics.
Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve purity, the wine was then aged for 12 months in French oak, adding gentle spice and depth. The result is a medium-bodied yet expressive Bordeaux full of ripe baked plum, dark fruit, delicate oak nuances, velvety tannins, and a confident, long finish.
A classic, elegant Bordeaux Supérieur is mature, balanced, and drinking beautifully.
