The Rossofonte 2019 is a fine example of what makes the southern slopes of Montalcino so exceptional. Produced by Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona, whose winemaking roots stretch back to the 17th century, this Rosso di Montalcino is crafted exclusively from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, grown between 240 and 360 metres above sea level, where the Orcia River tempers the Tuscan heat and marl-rich soils lend structure and elegance.
Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and glass-lined concrete vats, and aged in traditional Slavonian oak barrels (7.5–20 hl), Rossofonte balances traditional winemaking with bold character.
On the nose, it exudes aromas of ripe wild berries, balsamic herbs, and exotic spices. The palate opens silky and almost creamy, with layers of crushed red and black fruit, star anise, pink pepper, and a long, elegant finish framed by velvety tannins.
Awarded 92 points, this wine shows youthful grip and polish — an ideal companion to grilled meats, Tuscan ragù, or even rich fish dishes like monkfish and scorpionfish when enjoyed young. This is a Rosso with depth, elegance, and aging potential.
