Domaine de Coyeux Solera Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is a rich, aromatic sweet wine from the Southern Rhône Valley in France. Made entirely from Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, this non-vintage cuvée combines the fragrant fruit character of Muscat with the complexity developed through a solera ageing system. With notes of ripe tropical fruit, fresh fruit and a subtle smoky character, it offers generous sweetness balanced by freshness and elegance.
Situated among the hillsides of Beaumes-de-Venise, close to the Dentelles de Montmirail, Domaine de Coyeux has been producing wine since 1950. The estate is now owned by Arnaud and Isabelle Strasser, with winemaking overseen by Clément Bernardi. Its vineyards lie approximately 260–300 metres above sea level, on ancient sandy and alluvial soils associated with the region's Triassic geology. The combination of altitude, sunshine and cooling breezes helps the Muscat grapes develop aromatic intensity while retaining freshness. The estate follows sustainable vineyard practices and holds HVE environmental certification.
What distinguishes this cuvée is its solera maturation, built around a base wine dating from 2008. Each year, a proportion of the older wine is blended with wine from the new harvest, creating a continuous relationship between mature and younger vintages. Part of the wine is aged in concrete vats to preserve its fruit character, while another portion matures in oak to develop additional complexity. This fractional blending approach brings together the depth of older wine with the aromatic freshness of younger vintages, producing a layered expression of Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
Rich and smooth on the palate, Domaine de Coyeux Solera balances its pronounced sweetness with freshness and aromatic complexity. It is an interesting choice for those who enjoy traditional Rhône dessert wines but are looking for the added depth that comes from blending wines of different ages.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Ripe tropical fruits, fragrant fresh fruit and subtle smoky overtones.
Palate: Rich, smooth and sweet, with aromatic fruit and a balanced freshness.
Finish: Elegant and harmonious, with sweetness balanced by freshness.
Serving Recommendation & Food Pairing:
Serve chilled at approximately 8–10°C in a white wine or dessert wine glass, allowing its aromatic fruit character to develop as the wine warms slightly.
Its rich sweetness and fragrant Muscat character make it a suitable accompaniment to fruit-based desserts, apricot tart, peach pastries and almond cakes. It can also work well with blue cheeses, where the wine's sweetness provides a contrast to the cheese's saltiness and intensity.
For a traditional Southern Rhône pairing, try it with a fruit tart or enjoy a small glass on its own at the end of a meal.
