Hazelburn Sherry Wood is an annual limited release, and this is the 2026 edition. It is 7 years old, bottled at 47.9% ABV, and matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks. The release is limited to 9,000 bottles worldwide.
The distillery presents it as a deliberate contrast to the Hazelburn 10 Year Old, which is fully bourbon matured. Where the 10 year old is light and delicate, this is described as a complex, full-bodied whisky, so the choice of cask matters more here than the extra three years of age.
The nose is sweet and dark-fruited, with maraschino cherries, fudge, treacle, dates and brandy butter. The palate moves to brown sugar, ginger, raisins and red currant jelly. The finish is sweet and sticky, like toffee pudding, with black currants and an unexpected herbal edge of herbs and tarragon.
It is a good one to taste alongside the 10-year-old if you want to see what Oloroso casks do to the Hazelburn style. Ask in store if you’d like help comparing them.
