From the sun-drenched vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Bartavelles Rouge 2022 by Jean-Luc Colombo captures the warmth, depth, and aromatic richness of this legendary Southern Rhône appellation. Named after the once-forbidden royal partridges of the region, this wine is rooted in terroir defined by the iconic galets roulés, the large, heat-retaining pebbles that help ripen the grapes to perfection.
Crafted from a blend dominated by Syrah, supported by Grenache Blanc and Mourvèdre, the wine undergoes a long fermentation before maturing in large oak vats and partially in newer oak barrels for six months. This careful élevage enhances complexity while preserving fruit purity.
The 2022 vintage reveals a bright, intense ruby colour. Aromas of ripe dark fruit mingle with notes of garrigue, liquorice, and a hint of gingerbread spice. On the palate, it is full and structured, with velvety tannins and an elegant, balanced profile. The finish is long, fresh, and harmonious, a wine that beautifully balances power and finesse.
A characterful Châteauneuf-du-Pape that pairs wonderfully with game birds, Provençal herb-marinated beef, or rich poultry dishes.
