Reguengo de Melgaço Alvarinho is a beautifully refined white wine from the prestigious Monção & Melgaço sub-region of Vinho Verde, an area widely regarded as the finest terroir for the Alvarinho grape in northern Portugal.
The historic estate of Reguengo de Melgaço dates back to the 16th century, when the manor house was commissioned by Queen Leonor. Today, the family-owned estate cultivates nine hectares of vineyards across two distinctive sites, producing elegant wines that showcase the true character of the Alvarinho variety.
The vineyards surrounding the estate benefit from clay-sandy soils once part of the Minho River bed, providing excellent moisture retention during the warm Portuguese summers. Additional vineyards located in the S. Marcos hills feature sandy granitic soils, contributing mineral freshness and aromatic complexity to the wines.
Fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures, the wine preserves the vibrant aromatics and natural freshness that make Alvarinho one of Portugal’s most celebrated white grape varieties.
The result is a textured and expressive wine showing green apple and grapefruit flavours, layered with subtle floral notes and a delicate creamy finish.
