Roccolo Grassi Amarone della Valpolicella 2017 is a powerful and beautifully structured Italian red from the Veneto region, crafted by the highly regarded Roccolo Grassi estate. Founded in 1996 by Bruno Sartori and his children Francesca and Marco, the winery has quickly established itself as one of the region’s most respected producers, known for wines that combine elegance, concentration, and strong territorial character.
This Amarone is produced from a southeast-facing vineyard in the heart of the Amarone DOCG, where vines averaging 40 years of age grow on volcanic-basaltic soils at elevations of 200–250 meters above sea level. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully dried (Appassimento method) until early December, concentrating the sugars and flavours before fermentation.
After fermentation and a 30-day maceration, the wine matures for 24 months in French oak barriques (50% new), followed by an additional 18 months of bottle ageing before release. This extended maturation gives the wine remarkable complexity and balance.
In the glass, the wine is rich and multilayered, revealing aromas of ripe dark berries, raisined fruit, and dark chocolate. The palate is concentrated and intense, yet beautifully smooth, with supple tannins and subtle oak spice. The finish is long, elegant, and deeply satisfying.
A serious Amarone designed to be savoured slowly.
