Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Auslese Pink Seal 2018 is a luxurious late-harvest Riesling from one of the most historic vineyards in the world. Located in the Rheingau region of Germany, Schloss Johannisberg is widely recognised as the world’s first Riesling estate, planted exclusively with Riesling since 1720.
This legendary estate played a pivotal role in wine history. In 1775, the concept of Spätlese (late harvest) was first discovered here, followed shortly by the introduction of the German classifications Auslese, Beerenauslese, and Trockenbeerenauslese. Today, Schloss Johannisberg continues to produce some of the most celebrated Rieslings in the world and was recently awarded Best Vineyard in Europe 2025 in the World's Best Vineyards Awards.
The Pink Seal (Rosalack) indicates the estate’s Auslese style, produced from carefully selected grapes with higher natural ripeness, often including botrytis-affected berries, which concentrate sugars and flavour. Grapes are hand-harvested from the estate’s single south-facing vineyard, situated between 114 and 181 meters above sea level, where the Rhine River moderates the climate and Taunus quartz soils provide remarkable mineral expression.
For the 2018 vintage, the grapes were hand-selected and whole-cluster pressed before undergoing slow, cool fermentation with wild yeasts to preserve purity and aromatic complexity.
The result is an elegant and richly textured Riesling with beautifully balanced sweetness and remarkable length.
