Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Trocken Silberlack 2020 is a remarkable dry Riesling from one of the most historic wine estates in the world. Located in the Rheingau region of Germany, Schloss Johannisberg is widely recognised as the world’s first Riesling estate, having been planted exclusively with Riesling since 1720.
The estate holds an extraordinary place in wine history. In 1775, the concept of Spätlese (late harvest) was first discovered here, followed shortly by the creation of the renowned German wine classifications Auslese, Beerenauslese, and Trockenbeerenauslese. Today, Schloss Johannisberg remains a single-vineyard designation in its own right and was recently awarded Best Vineyard in Europe 2025 in the World's Best Vineyards Awards.
The south-facing vineyards, climbing from 114 to 181 meters above sea level, benefit from protection from cold northern winds by the Taunus forest while the Rhine River reflects heat and light back towards the vines. The unique soils of Taunus quartz, loess, and loam create Rieslings with exceptional minerality and structure.
For the 2020 vintage, grapes were hand harvested at optimal ripeness and whole-cluster pressed. Fermentation took place in 1,200-liter traditional oak barrels for six weeks before the wine matured on its fine lees for seven months, enhancing texture and complexity.
The result is a powerful yet elegant dry Riesling, combining fruit richness with classic Rheingau precision.
A superb match with:
Grilled seafood or lobster
Roast chicken or pork dishes
Asian cuisine with citrus or spice elements
Soft cheeses
Serve chilled at 8–10°C.
