Springbank 100 Proof is a 5-year-old single malt bottled at 57.1% ABV, with a stated maturation of 100% bourbon. It's a young, high-strength expression that shows the distillery's character with little between the spirit and the glass.
 
Springbank has been producing whisky since 1828, and its single malts are made entirely in-house, using skills the distillery describes as passed down from one generation to the next. The malt is lightly peated in the distillery's own kiln, and the spirit is distilled 2.5 times, a distinctive feature of Springbank's production.
 
In the glass, the nose is bright and lively: green apples, gorse bush and wine gums, with a mineral note underneath. The palate is well balanced, with a touch of peat smoke alongside sweeter notes of icing sugar and white chocolate. As it develops, more unusual savoury and oily characters emerge, including tomato plant, sunflower seeds and linseed oil. The finish brings honey and gooseberries.
