Tormaresca Bocca di Lupo Aglianico 2014 is a powerful and elegant southern Italian red wine produced in Castel del Monte DOC in Puglia. Crafted entirely from Aglianico, one of Italy’s most noble and age-worthy grape varieties, this wine represents the flagship expression from Tenuta Bocca di Lupo, the estate that ignited Tormaresca’s vision of producing world-class wines in southern Italy.
 
The vineyards sit at 250 metres above sea level in the rugged Murgia area near Minervino Murge, where calcareous, nutrient-poor soils create ideal conditions for producing concentrated, characterful wines. All the estate’s vineyards are certified organic, allowing the natural expression of terroir to shine through.
 
The 2014 vintage saw slightly delayed budbreak followed by warm spring temperatures that accelerated vine development. Despite challenging summer heat and drought conditions, careful vineyard management and precise irrigation ensured the grapes reached optimal ripeness. Harvest took place by hand during the third week of October, ensuring only the finest fruit was selected.
 
Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with around 15 days of maceration on the skins for gentle extraction. The wine was then transferred to French oak barriques, where malolactic fermentation and ageing occurred before bottling and at least one year of additional bottle maturation.
 
In the glass, Bocca di Lupo shows a lively ruby red colour with expressive aromas of ripe black cherries and red cherries, layered with notes of vanilla, cloves, dark chocolate, and tobacco. The palate is rich and mouth-filling, supported by refined, savoury tannins and excellent structure, leading to a long and persistent finish.
 
This is a serious Aglianico with outstanding depth and ageing potential.
