Torres Mas La Plana 2019 is one of Spain’s most iconic Cabernet Sauvignon wines, produced in the Alt Penedès region of Catalunya by the legendary Familia Torres winery. First released in 1970, Mas La Plana quickly gained international recognition when it famously triumphed over top Bordeaux wines at the 1979 Paris Wine Olympics, establishing Spain as a serious contender for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.
 
This remarkable wine comes from the Mas La Plana estate vineyard, planted on deep alluvial soils composed of gravel, sand, and clay, which provide excellent drainage and balanced vine growth. These soils allow the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to develop remarkable concentration and structure.
 
The 2019 vintage was characterised by a dry growing season with limited rainfall and warm temperatures, resulting in exceptionally healthy grapes with excellent ripeness and concentration. Harvest took place from 26th September, ensuring optimal maturity.
 
Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and oak foudres, followed by 15–25 days of skin contact to extract colour, flavour and structure. The wine was then aged for 18 months in French oak barriques (61% new oak), with smaller portions matured in large oak foudres and stainless steel tanks. Bottling took place in August 2021.
 
The result is a beautifully structured and complex Cabernet Sauvignon.
