Tyrrell’s Hunter Valley Shiraz 2021 is a refined expression of one of Australia’s most historic wine regions. Produced by the legendary Tyrrell’s winery, this wine reflects the classic elegance and balance that has defined Hunter Valley Shiraz for generations.
The fruit is sourced from carefully selected vineyard blocks across the Tyrrell’s estate and surrounding vineyards, many of which are dry-grown with an average vine age of around 40 years. These mature vines produce fruit of remarkable depth and complexity.
The 2021 vintage followed a significant break in the region’s long drought, with generous rainfall during winter creating ideal vineyard conditions. A cooler summer allowed for slow and even ripening, producing grapes with excellent flavour concentration and vibrant natural acidity.
In the winery, the grapes were destemmed but not crushed, allowing many whole berries to ferment intact. This approach preserves the purity of fruit and adds gentle structure. The wine was then matured in large, older French oak casks (2,700L) which enhance texture while ensuring the oak influence remains subtle and supportive.
The result is a beautifully balanced, medium-bodied Shiraz that highlights bright red fruit, savoury spice and refined tannins, a classic example of the elegant Hunter Valley style.
