Vachnadziani Qvevri Rkatsiteli 2023 is a remarkable traditional Georgian amber wine crafted using the ancient Qvevri winemaking method, a process recognised by UNESCO as part of the world’s cultural heritage. Produced in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, this wine showcases the depth, complexity, and history of one of the world’s oldest winemaking cultures.
Georgia is widely regarded as the cradle of wine, with archaeological evidence of winemaking dating back over 8,000 years. The Vachnadziani Winery, founded in 1953, has played a significant role in preserving this ancient tradition while combining it with modern winemaking practices.
The wine is made from 100% Rkatsiteli, one of Georgia’s oldest and most important indigenous grape varieties. The vineyards are located in Kakheti at around 320 meters above sea level, where hot summers and cold winters help produce grapes with excellent balance and natural acidity.
Following careful hand selection, the grapes undergo skin-contact fermentation in traditional clay vessels known as Qvevri, which are buried underground to maintain natural temperature stability. After fermentation, the wine remains on its skins for approximately six months, allowing it to develop its distinctive colour, structure, and complex flavour profile.
The result is a deeply expressive wine that reflects both Georgia’s ancient winemaking heritage and the unique character of the Rkatsiteli grape.
