Vilafonté Seriously Old Dirt 2019 is a beautifully refined Cabernet Sauvignon–dominant blend from Paarl, South Africa, crafted by the acclaimed Vilafonté estate, known for producing some of the country’s most respected Bordeaux-style wines.
The name “Seriously Old Dirt” refers to the ancient soils of the Paarl region, some of the oldest vineyard soils in the world. These deep, weathered soils contribute remarkable concentration, structure and complexity to the wines.
The 2019 vintage was characterised by a cool and wet start to the growing season, which encouraged strong vineyard growth. Despite the challenges of increased rainfall and disease pressure, careful vineyard management ensured healthy grapes with excellent balance and ripeness. Harvest occurred slightly later than usual, allowing the fruit to develop rich flavour concentration while maintaining freshness.
Each vineyard block was harvested and fermented separately, preserving the unique characteristics of the fruit before blending. The wine was then matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, giving the final blend depth, elegance, and structure.
The blend composition is Cabernet Sauvignon – 94%, Malbec – 3%, Merlot – 2%, Cabernet Franc – 1%
This vintage showcases Vilafonté’s signature balance of richness and elegance.
