Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico 2022 is a beautifully balanced and authentic expression of Chianti Classico DOCG, produced in the historic hilltop village of Volpaia in Radda in Chianti, Tuscany. Crafted primarily from Sangiovese, this organic wine captures the elegance, freshness, and character that define the great wines of Chianti.
The estate sits in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, where vineyards benefit from varied exposures, including south, southeast, and southwest-facing slopes. These ideal exposures allow the grapes to ripen evenly while maintaining freshness and aromatic complexity.
The 2022 vintage experienced a warm winter and dry growing season, encouraging thick-skinned berries with ripe tannins and concentrated flavour. Harvest took place from mid-September through early November, with grapes carefully picked by hand to ensure only the best fruit entered the winery.
After fermentation, the wine matured for 12 months in large oak casks (around 30 hectoliters), allowing the Sangiovese character to shine while developing subtle complexity and texture.
In the glass, the wine displays an intense ruby red colour, with aromas of fresh red fruits and cherries. The palate is elegant and well structured, offering smooth texture and vibrant fruit flavours that linger through a refined finish.
This is a classic Chianti Classico, expressive, food-friendly, and a perfect introduction to the historic wines of Tuscany.
