A vibrant demonstration of spirit-led English whisky, White Peak Wire Works Bourbon Barrel puts the character of White Peak's lightly peated single malt firmly at centre stage. Matured exclusively in premium ex-bourbon barrels from Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, this is the second expression in the Wire Works Provenance Core Range.
Rather than relying on heavily active wine or fortified-wine casks, White Peak has deliberately chosen ex-bourbon barrels that give the whisky room to speak. The result is an expressive combination of creamy vanilla, orchard fruit, citrus, gentle smoke and beautifully integrated oak, bottled at a generous 53.4% ABV.
White Peak's connection to provenance runs considerably deeper than the cask choice. Mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation all take place at the distillery in Derbyshire, creating a whisky with genuine traceability from production through to the finished bottle.
The whisky opens with creamy vanilla and fudge, joined by roasted nuts, coconut and restrained wisps of peat and coal smoke. The palate becomes increasingly fruit-driven, moving through apple, pineapple and orchard fruit, while pepper, char and soft smoke provide structure. A creamy, lingering finish combines fruit sweetness with polished oak and coffee.
This bottling is non-chill filtered and has no added colouring, preserving its natural presentation.
For CASK23 customers interested in the new generation of serious English whisky, this is particularly compelling: flavour-led, confidently bottled and designed to showcase the distillate rather than disguise it beneath the cask.
