Rich, fruit-driven and gently smoky, Wire Works Port Cask is the third permanent expression in the Provenance Core Range from White Peak Distillery, following Wire Works Caduro and Bourbon Barrel.
 
This release brings together White Peak's signature lightly peated English single malt matured in a carefully judged combination of fresh Tawny Port barriques from Dias Cooperage and first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels. It is a maturation style that draws on White Peak's long-running exploration of Port casks while retaining the distinctive character of the spirit at its heart.
 
The Tawny Port brings generous red fruit, dried fruit, marzipan and caramelised sweetness, while the bourbon barrels contribute vanilla, citrus and creamy oak. Beneath it all sits the gentle smoke of Wire Works, creating a whisky where fruit, sweetness, spice and peat work together rather than compete.
 
At 50.2% ABV, the whisky has an impressively oily texture and plenty of flavour. The nose suggests Bakewell pudding, milk chocolate, cinder toffee and candied ginger, before a palate of strawberries and cream, marzipan, lemon curd and vanilla fudge. The finish turns darker and more aromatic, with cherry pie filling, bonfire toffee, hibiscus and cooling eucalyptus.
 
Bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration, Wire Works Port Cask is a characterful Derbyshire single malt that shows just how naturally Tawny Port and White Peak's lightly peated spirit belong together.
